Pathway to painting

Pathway to Painting is a tutor led series of courses designed to give an artist the confidence and materials to create.

An introductory tutorial based group course bridging the gap between drawing and painting.

The aim of this series of tutorials is for a very small group to openly share and discuss work so each member can develop a confident approach to the way they wish to paint.

Week 1           Introduction to painting by Paul; a brief history of content.

Practical exercise: Stretching, priming and preparation for canvas, paper and board. This is essential to the process of painting; the surface is integral of the work.

Week 2           The visual language we use to communicate; discussion and examples.

Practical exercise: The vocabulary of the brush; how it marks, how it flows, how you relate to it and it to you.

Week 3          Selection; what do you see, what do you create.

Practical exercise: Finding your voice.

Week 4 Colour; seeing the light. Transparency and opacity.

Practical exercise: Oil, poster, water; mixing the elements.

 Week 5         Choosing the combination.

Practical exercise: Bring it all together, set the pathway.

After the course tutorials are available to the group as and when needed.
